We are pleased to present our 2014 Alive to Strive Race Ambassador, Hélène Lavoie!
Hélène received a fitness grant from Alive to Strive in 2013. As a grant recipient with less than 30% kidney function, Hélène worked her way back to better health and a stronger body. Seeing the positive benefits of her new routine gave her hope, and a sense of belonging and community. Last April, Hélène walked in the 1km Alive to Strive Race with her family and friends, as proud as can be!
Hélène’s hard work, perseverance and dedication to her fitness routine gave her the health boost she needed to increase her eligibility for a kidney transplant. A few weeks after she participated in the Alive to Strive Race, Hélène underwent a successful kidney transplant!
Recently, on September 29, Hélène was part of our Alive to Strive team at the Kidney Walk in Ottawa. Every year, the Kidney Foundation of Canada organizes a Kidney Walk in communities across Canada in support of the Foundation’s programs and leading research in Canada. The Alive to Strive team was among the top 5 fundraising teams in Ottawa, raising $1,970 for the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
Now, Hélène will lead the way on April 27, 2014 when we take off from the start line of the Alive to Strive Race at Hog’s Back Park! And we can’t wait to have you join us!
Race details will be coming soon…stay tuned!
