It smells like this time of the year where we start dreaming about taking one layer off, about leaving the house with 10 pounds less of clothing. Have you noticed the smell of the air during the last weekend? It was awesomely soothing… The sun is getting warmer; you can hear the birds singing in the hedge… Haaa! Beautiful spring season!
Upcoming spring also means that the D-day is getting closer. In fact, we have only a few days before the early-bird registration closes. So if you want to save money and reserve your spot, now is the perfect time to do it. You can save 5$ if you register before March 1st. With only 62 days to go before runners and walkers will be crossing the start line on Hog’s Back Road, the race committee has good news to announce. First, we already have over 200 registrations, either for the 1K, 5K, 5K Team Challenge, 5K wheelchair race or the 10K. This year, we also have a very special race, the 3kg challenge, a new feature to help raise awareness on the reality of daily living with kidney disease. We are so excited to announce who has agreed to participate in that challenge… but not yet! The only hints we will give you are: local celebrities and CTV Amazing People. Stay tuned for that… or take a guess on Facebook!
This time of the year also rimes with runners and walkers getting back to their outside training… So as you gear on for those refreshing runs or walks outside, you might want to reach out to friends and family to raise money for one of our charities: The Kidney Foundation of Canada- Patient Care program of Eastern Ontario, The Kidney Research Center/Ottawa Hospital Foundation and The Canadian Diabetes Association.
One of the objectives of the Alive to Strive Race is to inform people on kidney disease and health. That’s why we love the fact that we can offer our participants a free, kidney-friendly healthy lunch, and a Health Check booth for kidney disease prevention and early detection.
For those of you who love competition…
…we have great prizes and gifts. For the 10K winners, 1st place prize is $300 (male and female), $200 for 2nd, $100 for 3rd. Top 3 overall, and 1st of each age categories, will receive beautiful plaques. The top individual fundraiser will get a VIA Rail trip and the top Team Fundraiser will also get a nice prize.
Last but not least, our Race Ambassador of 2014, Hélène Lavoie, will be able to inspire many of us with her new energy from her last year’s transplant.
So, lace up your running shoes, start hitting the pavement, get your fundraising going, and prepare for a nice and fun family race day on April 27th. See you there! But before, don’t forget to register! And bring your friends along…
