We are excited to once again offer the 5KM Group Training with Coach David Witiluk!
The 5KM Group Training is designed especially to help runners and walkers prepare for the 2016 Alive to Strive Race on April 24, 2016. The 5KM Group Training is also a great way to meet new people and to help each other stay motivated and have fun!
A certified kinesiologist, David will provide you with a training program that can be adjusted to your specific needs. “The training program is prepared for everyone to follow. I will adjust the program to each individual’s needs depending on how they progress,” explains David.
David will also cover running form and will help people individually as they are running. Classes are open to all runners and walkers, and are particularly geared towards beginners.
“A typical class will begin with a dynamic warm-up that will help to improve strength, coordination and balance. This will be followed by a different run/walk workout, some core strengthening exercises and a series of stretches,” describes David.
Classes are one-hour in length and are offered twice a week, for a total of eight weeks. They will take place at Ottawa Osteopathy and Sport Therapy every Monday and Thursday from February 29, 2016 to April 21, 2016, between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. To register for the group training, please call 613-521-3222

Whether your training goal is to complete the 5KM event at the Alive to Strive race, to complete as much of the 5KM as possible while running or to improve the time you ran last year, you will enjoy the benefits of running with a group, while learning how to improve your current fitness and health. A past participant shares her experience:
“Last year, I was able to improve on my race time by 10 minutes…It is very motivating to get outside and run with other people. It’s not easy to start running, so the group support is important.”
Individuals living with chronic kidney disease and who would like to participate in the group training may be eligible for an Alive to Strive Kidney Fitness grant. Individuals who have less than 30% kidney function, who are followed by the Ottawa Hospital or who are living within the Champlain LHIN boundaries, can submit a grant application form to the following address:
