I have been a diabetic for over 50 years and had a quadruple bypass 12 years ago. After this operation, my kidneys failed and fortunately I was assigned to Doctor Deb Zimmerman.
At one of my appointments, Deb suggested my partner and I consider volunteering for the Alive to Strive Race. We agreed, and as a result, we have been involved with Alive to Strive for the last six or seven years. During this time, my family, some friends, Anne, and I have donated to the race. We have also volunteered for the barricade stations.Early this year, Deb asked if I knew of anyone who might be able to sponsor the 1km race. Because we believe in fitness to support health, we asked family and friends to contribute to the 1 km race. One friend, (Donna Gaines), and family members, immediately offered to help. With Donna’s generous donation, plus family donations and ours, we were able to sponsor the 1km race.
We are impressed with the Alive to Strive fitness grants created through monies donated. These grants promote and provide kidney patients with a much-needed alternative to maintain kidney health.
Each year, Alive to Strive is looking for race participants, donations and volunteers. This is an important race for kidney health and assistance is always needed. If you have the time or a donation, please visit Race Roster to register as a volunteer or as a race participate in the 1km, 5km, 10km, or 5km team challenge on April 29, 2018. You can also visit the Alive to Strive web site to find out more about the organization.
