It was a chilly Sunday morning but that didn’t stop the fun! Over 600 bright eyed runners and walkers came out for our 7th annual Alive to Strive Race and completed the Fresenius Medical Care 5km, 10km and 5km team challenge! Results from this year’s race are now available on QuidChrono’s website.

It is always wonderful to learn why the people who support our cause are willing to run or walk in rain or snow (in our case, both!) whether they are transplant recipients, donors, dialysis patients, nurses, hospital staff, friends and family, or avid runners! This is truly a supportive community.
The race could not have been a success without our volunteers. . The temperature did not detract from their energy and enthusiasm along the course as they cheered on race participants.. They also staffed the registration tables, set up barricades, handed out water, directed runners on the course, served the beef stew lunch, and helped with countless other duties. Another race day was executed smoothly thanks to their invaluable contributions. Thank you!
Huge congratulations to everyone who participated in the race this year. Leading the pack in the Fresenius Medical Care 5km was Peter Wilton with a time of 20:05 and Megan Tam with a time of 22:44. In the 10k race, Maxime Leboeuf crossed the line first in 31:39 and Erin O’Higgins in a time of 37:43.
A special shout out goes to Corynne’s Crusaders, winners of last year’s team spirit prize, who won this year’s Team Fundraiser award!

The 1km fun run had more than 200 people registered, and half were kids under age six! We love that the promotion of living an active lifestyle is being instilled so young! Despite the chill in the air, the Ottawa REDBLACKS cheerleaders along with @BigJoeGrandJos and @SparkyFURY, led our 1km group in a special warm up!
So far this year, we have raised over $20,000 for the Alive to Strive Active Living Grant Program!! Your support by participating in the Alive to Strive Race means we can continue to provide grants that help individuals in our community affected by chronic kidney disease maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. We have also surpassed all our fundraising goals for our charities: over $5,000 for the Kidney Research Centre, more than $4,500 for the Kidney Foundation of Canada (Patient Support Program of Eastern Ontario Chapter) and $1,350 for Diabetes Canada! Thank you everyone for your amazing fundraising efforts!

We are also grateful for our incredible sponsors whose support helps make this race possible. Our gold sponsor, Fresenius Medical Care, has been with us since the beginning; thank you for supporting our cause and believing in our event and programs! Seven years and counting!
